Questioner

What happens to the contents of a sacred artist's soulspace when they die?

Will Wight

So your soulspace can be, it tends to meld with your remnant. So anything that happens to be in the soulspace sort of dissolves to spiritual energy and it merges with your remnant. So in some cases you can take what is in their soulspace from their remnant. You can have a soulsmith extract it. But usually it just kind of becomes a useless mass of energy in the remnant. So those rings around the soulspace, the Sword Sage's remnant, those were, I don't remember if I revealed exactly what they were so I'll be a little vague. Might not matter but I just don't remember. They are constructs that were in his spirit before he died. So, therefore, they just kind of became circles of energy. So they were not useful constructs, then. Yerin doesn't have them anymore they were just kind of absorbed and digested.

Is the sword wielding monarch that fought the sage of the endless sword still alive?

Will Wight

I believe the answer is no, but I'll have to look that up. I know who it was but I may have changed my mind somewhere along the line. The person I had doing it was someone who is now dead. But I may have changed my mind to someone who is alive, so you'll have to read and find out on that one!

Reality Spasm

What conditions result in the generation of either spacial madra/aura, or what types can effect space? What kinds of limitations would you encounter considering that spacetime isn't really a thing here, as far as I can tell?

Will Wight

It requires someone of Sage or above, or one of their Remnants/devices, to cause madra to take on space-altering properties. Someone of lower cultivation could get it and cultivate it, but only if someone higher helped them.

Questioner

Does the Void in the 'Void Sage' have any connection to the Vroshir 'Void'?

Will Wight

Ah, sort of, yeah. In the sense that the Void is just what they call the empty expanse outside of existence. And the Void Icon is the concept of non-existence or emptiness as reflected in the Way. So, its power does come from the Way, like any Icon does, so in that regard its not coming from The Void, it is coming from the Way. But you would be able to potentially, that is one potential use of the Void Icon is tapping into The Void.

I was wondering if there was a difference between ascending beyond an iteration and traveling between iterations? Also, do the magic systems of some iterations predispose a person to ascending?

Will Wight

Yeah, Valin didn't ascend, he just wandered out the back door and got lost.

The Emperor would be capable of ascending from Asylum, were it possible to leave Asylum under normal circumstances (it's a prison, so he couldn't leave).

Cradle's requirements for ascension are higher than a world like Asylum's. The Sword Sage COULD have ascended, had he the necessary knowledge and skill. And, of course, the desire to do so.

But if he had gotten too much more powerful, the Abidan would have removed him before he affected the course of the world.

Questioner

Do Travelers have a special sense like Sages do since they manipulate space?

Will Wight

No. They do not. Valin was a special case in that sense.

Well, let me be clear. When Travelers form a connection to their Territory, they can sense that connection and a lot of the abilities they get from that Territory. So the ability to stretch themselves out and affect space, you might say that that is a special sense. So, in a sense, they have a sense, if that makes sense.

I don’t know if this question is fair game but I know you’re friends with Andrew Rowe of arcane ascension how strong do you think Keras is in terms of cradle levels. Also on a more relevant note would you ever consider letting other authors that you trust write in the the Will-verse?

Will Wight

I'm honestly not sure, especially after reading the second Weapons and Wielders book. I'd say probably Sage-ish.

Would I let other authors I trust write in the Willverse? Sure, hypothetically! The hardest part would be coming up with a story bible that was coherent enough for anyone other than me to read.

From the Sage of the Endless Sword's Remnant, are the rings in his form similar to the Akura armor?

Will Wight

No, they are not. The rings in his spirit are more similar to the Akura books that they use. So it's like the thing Mercy carries around.

Who was the most powerful Blackflame and what rank did he/she hit?

Will Wight

The most powerful member of the Blackflame family was an Archlord, unless I decide to go back in time and retcon them into a Sage.

Questioner

Would it be possible to bond Emriss like Yerin did the Sword Sage?

Will Wight

Yes, technically. If she allowed you to, because you're not more powerful than Emriss. She's maximum power. So, yeah if she let you, you could adopt Emriss as a Remnant. That'd be a lot more like her adopting you though. Actually no, I guess it wouldn't be possible. Maybe, it could be if she let it happen. Could be. Technically possible, could be, and that is even if she allowed it.

I guess we won't see anymore "how did a bunch of jades kill a sage" posts. And I loved the blooper about this!

SeNoyerSoublier

Am I hallucinating or did we also learn tim is named Adama?

Will Wight

You can’t know how TIMpted I was to put the letters T-I-M in his name somewhere. Like Atima. Problem is, I couldn’t come up with anything I thought sounded cool...and also I assigned him a name a while ago, and I felt weird about changing it for a fan meme.

But I was very tempted.

Questioner

Did Valin have authority?

Will Wight

Yeah, to some degree. I don't know how to say without spoiling anything what kind of authority he had or what level. It was certainly not to the level of what a true Sage would have, and if you're asking me about a matchup between Valin and Lindon or Valin and Yerin, they would take him apart like a lego house.

But at the same time, he did have enough authority to escape his world and sort of manipulate the fabric of Valinhall and get through the Way. So, to some degree, even though it was a crude, half-formed thing, yeah, he had some authority over some things.

Questioner

Lindon went from Overlord to Archlord with very little training this time. Does that belittle other Archlords?

Will Wight

So there's a time skim in Reaper. Kind of a montage. So while yes it is definitely short compared to other Overlords and Archlords, he did still have access to his hunger arm for part of that time. So he was able to advance faster and he has a great foundation, obviously. And he's got other, he's still got Eithan around at that point, he's got other resources he can call on, he's got other people to help. He had a lot of advantages there that made the transition from Overlord to Archlord quite a bit easier. One of the things I would like to do, and I probably shouldn't even mention this because it's going to sound like I'm promising this but I'm genuinely not, what I would like to do is go into some short stories about, so that I can cover some side details that didn't get covered in the main series. So some stuff they did during the down time in Reaper or even other books. Or where they just go in detail about what are the differences between Sages and Heralds and they're just exploring that. Scenes where that happens. I don't mind reading those in other books but they tend to make it out of mine just because they don't advance the plot. So if they're not necessary to your understanding of what's going on I don't keep them in.

Questioner

That's a promise?

Will Wight

No, that's not a promise. I don't promise that.

Questioner

Cradle: thirteen books and many stories confirmed.

Will Wight

No, stop it. BAD.

Question

Are the Akura Path of Seven Pages unique? Is there only one "Book of Eternal Night" as long Mercy is alive none can walk her Path?

Will Wight

In that particular case, yes, there is only one book of Eternal Night and as long as Mercy is alive there will be nothing else.In the case of other books of seven pages, I think most of them are unique. I don't think all of them are. If I had to answer off the top of my head...Which I do because that is the whole premise, I believe that there are some of them that are not unique. Some of them are sort of mass produced…Like, not really but this is like two or three copies.

Questioner

Has Fury or Charity penned a book of seven pages?

Will Wight

No. No they have not. So what Charity did was Charity developed her book with her grandmother so - With Malice. Malice had started had this dream shadow book and she and Charity finished it together but once Charity started showing signs of ascending to sage, they finished the rest of it together. So it was an unfinished booked and that was true in a lot of like, there was a lot of things, a lot of these books Malice didn't do herself. So the first person who carried the book or the first person who helped her make it or whatever was the person who helped her finish it.

Questioner

Are there new books of Seven Pages being written?

Will Wight

Not anymore. Not really. They typically have more books than they have people capable of using the books so there’s really not a point in developing more.

How did a bunch of Sages kill the Sword Jade? (Real question) Where can you find the best cookies on Cradle?

Will Wight

Deep in the Diamondvale Mountains lies the home of the Honeyfinger sect, confectioners and craftsmen without equal who raise ancient chocolate plants over generations and summon incomprehensible sugars from other worlds. They’re currently working to perfect a disc, a sandwich of two chocolate cookies with creme between them, the birth of which could change Cradle forever.

Goku vs Elders and Emperor. If Goku loses, then Beerus comes in

Will Wight

Based on what we've seen from Dragon Ball Super recently, even the creators of the show have no idea what power levels mean. We have Super Saiyan Trunks fighting evenly with Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta, which makes NO sense. Plus Goku gets pricked by a poison needle during his fight with alt-universe Freeza, which seems to violate canon in like three different ways.

This effectively means that recent events have suggested that Goku isn't really THAT strong.

Anyway, disregarding recent events that retcon Goku's strength and using our own reasonable standard of his power level...

1.) Goku vs. the Emperor and the Elders

Let's assume, first of all, that Goku doesn't just blow up the planet and cause everyone to lose.

...although, now that I'm thinking about it, that would be the worst thing he could do. Without the existence of Intent-wielding humans, the Elders would be free of their confines, and they would escape into their true forms. At which point they would unmake Goku at a conceptual level. The Emperor would still die, but his team would win the battle.

However, assuming Goku doesn't destroy the planet, he would tear apart the Emperor and about half the Great Elders. Any of them that work physically: Nakothi, Othaghor, Kthanikahr. He'd blow up their minions, fly in, and tear them to pieces.

But against the more metaphysical Great Elders--Urg'naut, Tharlos, Ach'magut--I suspect he'd have his mind devoured or his soul ripped out or something. As far as I can tell, he has no ability to resist powers like that.

And I can't imagine Kelarac wouldn't be able to outwit Goku.

2.) Beerus vs. Elder Empire

It depends on how Beerus' powers as the God of Destruction work in a universe that isn't his own.

If he can still unmake entities the way that he unmade Zamasu, then he would certainly win. The Great Elders actually can't be unmade this way, so they would re-form in the void and attack some other, random world, but that's not enough to invalidate Beerus' victory.

However, if he's relying on sheer strength and not his authority as the Destroyer, then he has the same result as Goku. He might be able to resist one or two of the metaphysical Elders, because presumably gods have some kind of spiritual/mental fortitude, but all of them working together could probably defeat him.

Whis, on the other hand, likely just wins. I can't see the Elders beating him physically or metaphysically.

Questioner

Woah. I thought you would say Goku would lose immediately.

How about Naruto. Him vs Emperor.

And vs physical Elders, not metaphysical.

Use Sage of Six Paths Naruto

Will Wight

I've seen nothing in the series to suggest that Naruto could ever compete on Goku's level, so I'd think Naruto loses to everybody.

Now, that's assuming he walks in and tries to fight Nakothi (or whoever) on his own. As part of a team, like for instance one of the Emperor's teams that actually went against the Great Elders, I think he'd be a huge asset. And a big threat to the Elders.

Naruto vs. the Emperor would be the closest fight. Naruto's powers are more physically threatening than the Emperor's, since he can use blasts of destruction and the Emperor can't. However, the Emperor's powers of Intent can also counter a lot of what Naruto's capable of doing--the Emperor would have superior elemental control to Naruto, for instance, and he could likely make Naruto's clothes shrivel up and start strangling him. He effectively controls the whole world around him.

So the incompatibility of powers makes this a little bit of an awkward matchup, but I'd PROBABLY give it slightly to Naruto. 51-49. The Emperor is smarter and older and wiser, but Naruto has many crazy powers in one body.

Tim the Sword Sage

What was your favorite scene to write in the story thus far?

Will Wight

Definitely the Dross scene at the end of Ghostwater. That was fun to write in a sense because I knew that was a really cool punch line to the book so I spent a lot of effort trying to set that up in the exact right way. So that was just difficult and then seeing it pay off was really cool. What was hard about it was balancing the rapport and him speaking as a presence for the first time and them finishing the Ghostwater project AND beating Harmony. So I had to have all of the happen and I really had to have all of that happen at the same moment and I had to set all that up so that it made sense when it happened and that was just very difficult but a lot of fun planning. Therefore seeing it pay off felt really good.
