Will there be Abidan/Vrosheer(idk how to spell it) side plot/references in the series, like in Cradle and Elder Empire?
I know most of these are unanswerable, but I wanna ask just in case
Will Wight

MAYBE (yes)
-
No
The first book is written mostly as though it’s not connected to the broader multiverse, but it is.

3. Will there be appearances in later books?
Will Wight
MAYBE
Volitant_Anuran
Have you bestowed upon this iteration a portion of your Will power?
Will Wight
Only a portion, lest I destroy everyone in it
SESender
4. where does this place chronologically in book order?
or is that mega spoiler?
Will Wight
It’s a spoiler, idk if it’s a mega spoiler yet. That depends on Future Will and whether he does or does not deviate from my plans.
Future Will loves to deviate. He’s a notorious deviant.
JMacPhoneTime
You dont have to answer, but is it on Fathom?
The descriptions of it in Reaper sound a lot like a reasonable setting for a large scale magic space adventure.
Will Wight
That seems like it would be a cool place to set a space series, for sure.
Astro
Did the builders of the labyrinth ascend and return to Cradle with power from other Iterations?
Will Wight
No, they did not. Good question. That is not something that the builders did.

What would a monarch level poison do?
Will Wight
It would be sentient, more like a plague than a poison, and it would not only devour the spirit and the mind, but would corrupt the madra and aura of the land around it as well. Inside a Monarch, being contained by their spirit, it might just act like a normal poison would in a normal person.
Tievel
I know your pain, Anu. I was inspired to try my hand at my take on xianxia, but I can't get past that any of my takes on the magic system want to be based on Cradle, and aren't as good without being a straight copycat. Vital aura, specifically, may be my favorite magic innovation I've ever read.
Will Wight
There are a lot of changes I'd make to the Cradle magic system if I got a do-over. The general shape of it would stay the same, but basically I would use harder definitions so that people understand what's going on more. It's hard because I was trying to start with people who kind of but not really knew how the magic worked so that I could build out from there, because most people are just giving their beliefs and theories on how the sacred arts works. But as a result it's gotten confusing, so I would have been clearer from the beginning.
Questioner
Are there other colors of dragon madra beyond "black"flame?
Will Wight
The dragons who inhabited the lands of the Blackflame empire were (and are) black, the color of the destructive aura that they cycled. There are sea dragons that are blue, sky dragons with a variety of colors, and earthbound land dragons that might be green or brown. But you asked about the color of their flame, not the color of their scales. Yes, there are dragons with toxic green flame, frigid icy "flame" that consumes even as it freezes, good old natural flame, and red living flames that drift around like Remnants burning as much as possible to extend their fleeting lives.

Say you received a world seed, what would you do with it?
Will Wight
I would make a world. So what world seeds do, they can be repurposed for other things, but they effectively are little drops of creation left over, and you can make kind of whatever. It's, it tended to bloom into what effectively would be a territory, then it's own world. So they're effectively the only ways left of creating new iterations; but you can also use them to make things, make unique things or people, beings, you can make sentient beings with them. So you can kind of make anything you want. It's kind of like having access to my notebook, where you can write whatever you want to into the setting. In a way, I do have access to a world seed.
Questioner
How would the Abidan deal with a sci-fi Iteration with millions of worlds?
Will Wight
When Suriel personally intervened in Harrow, it was because the Abidan were not prepared for Harrow to be infected with corruption at all. She decided to save as many people as she could. Limit was the world that was scheduled for demolition, its population evacuated and quarantine implemented. But Ozriel didn't show up to destroy it. The corruption spread until the Abidan weren't prepared to contain it, and that's when it spread through the Way into Harrow. So: if they were prepared to save a sci-fi world with a galactic empire, they absolutely could. It would be easier and far more organized than what Suriel did in Harrow. That said, civilizations with trillions of inhabitants and multiple inhabited planets are tethered very tightly to the Way. They're very stable and difficult to corrupt naturally, so they tend to be safer.
Questioner
I assume the artists on the Path of the Starseed have some way of protecting their body from the aura? Also, can they only manifest it inside their hands, or within a certain distance?
Will Wight
It's cupped a few inches from their hands, like a ball. As they advance, they can control it more freely and project it farther.
Revan
What is your favorite type of madra? Is there a sort of madra that can do psychic things, such as telekenisis or telepathy?
Will Wight
Telepathy yeah, 100%. Dream madra does that. That's basically what it does. Telekinesis... not reeeally. There's a lot of madra that lets you pick stuff up without touching it but not really telekinesis so much. Favorite kind of madra... If I were in Cradle I would probably want force madra or wind madra because the aura is everywhere and it's very useful, it's handy. And then you get the telekinesis kind of stuff so that's basically the telekinesis powers. My favorite to write is actually dream madra because you can do so many cool things with it, like you can share thoughts, communicate over distance, read minds and all that stuff.
Questioner
How high up does the Atmosphere go on Cradle?
Will Wight
To the top.
Questioner
Anything cool up there? Like any naturally occurring Island nations? Or a sky version of the EAC?
Will Wight
Actually, yeah. That is a good question. So, one of the things that I had initially envisioned for Cradle, there are a couple of things like this, was there was a whole, just like there are ocean civilizations in Cradle, there are sky civilizations. So not necessarily built on clouds; built on structures that can stay aloft indefinitely in wind aura. I don't know if you guys, in older editions of DnD, there were silver dragons that were said to make their castles out of clouds that they could manipulate, and that was the kind of thing that I wanted in the skies of Cradle. But there was also a base on the moon. There was a whole civilization on the moon that lived there, because there was an ancient, highly advanced sacred artist that could make it to the moon. Probably jumped there, Saitama style, from one punch man. And he or she settled this civilization and settled a bunch of people up there. So I really wanted to have that. It probably does still exist on Cradle. I have not filled out the details. Unless I did and just forgot. But we're not going to get there, so that is the problem. But I thought it was fun. When I was first outlining Cradle, I thought "Ooo, it would make sense to me that people could reach the moon. Is a moon base too weird for a magical martial arts series?" Then I laughed at myself. "Ha, ha, too weird? Ha, ha, ha, ha. No such thing." Then I went on.
Questioner
Did Eithan immediately recognize that Lindon's marble was from a judge?
Will Wight
Yes, he did. And he recognized the judge. So he knew exactly who left it. I may get into this in the future, but I haven't looked over my notes for this, that's why its not in the books. But my original intention back when I wrote Soulsmith was that the whole reason why Eithan is there in the Desolate Wilds and out ahead of his family, the Arelius family, the reason why he's out ahead alone is because he sensed that something had happened in the Way. This thing that Suriel had done, rewinding the whole iteration, but he didn't know what it was because he didn't have the scope of his power back, so he started heading toward what he thought was the source of the disturbance. And that is why he is there and that is why he's ahead of his family and that is why he runs into Lindon with the marble.
True Ruler of None
What are the chances that in the process of writing 7 books of Cradle the conclusion and outline in Will head of OKAK changed ?
Will Wight
Tbh, the scenes with Ozriel are now a lot less elaborate than they were in the original outline.
As I originally envisioned, all the pre-chapter text in Kings was going to be excerpts from a conversation Ozriel was having with Sector 11 Control.
Where they had brought him in because the Elders were loose so he was supposed to erase the Iteration, but he kept jerking them around as Sector Control became more and more panicked over the course of the book.
Until they finally appeal to another Judge who basically goes “Idk guys, we can’t control him either.”
And then only at the end does the situation become dire enough for him to actually be willing to do his job, and then the good guys resolve it right before.
I actually wrote out most of that conversation screenplay style. It’s saved on my phone from my original OKAK notes from 2015.My only reluctance for [releasing] that kind of thing is that it wouldn’t be edited at all. It’s literally off-the-cuff dialogue thoughts from 2015.
And I know you might say “Oh that’s okay, we don’t care, any content is interesting!” but there will always be that guy who goes through and points out the issues in the comments.
There’s always some guy.
Questioner
On a scale of baby snow bunny to eldritch-horror who is scarier when fully equipped. Simon with the mask and cloak or Lindon with his goldsign and his wriggly arm?
Will Wight
I'd say Lindon when he gets going is basically a 6/horror. He's kind of a rough-looking guy anyway, and he gets the dark aura of the Burning Cloak, demonic eyes, a skeletal arm, and a big, hulking, burning turtle.
hosoke
You said recently that you'd made some changes to your process so that you could write Elder Empire better and finish OKAK, what are those changes, what do they look like and how do they help?
Will Wight
The changes to my process, honestly iv'e been to work on and iterate on if you don't mind that word, my process basically constantly from the beginning, i'm always trying to write better. There are two parts of the process that i kind of separate it into and that "writing a better book" and "writing a book better". So writing a better book is sort of figuring out how to sit on the book i'm writing on and try to make that book as good as possible, and the other part of that is trying to make it so that the process of writing that book is superior.
So what I've been really working on is trying to front load a lot of the writing part, because i tend to lose a lot of time to rethinking and changing and tweaking and really thinking over these different parts of the book, and i tend to lose a lot of time doing that, it feels inefficient, it feels like l'm treading over the same ground. So a lot of things i think are very important as i'm developing the book end up not really mattering. I tend to rethink the ideas a lot, so what i'm trying to do now is not give myself to do that, to instead produce a book and then develop it from there. So I'm doing a lot more about what they teach you in writing class, which is you write the first draft, you don't think about it too much and then to go and develop it afterwards. but its hard to do, because i'm not used to that
Questioner
Is there a ranking system by the Abidan to measure the world level of advancement? Could u give us the rating for your currently displayed worlds if yes?
Will Wight
Yes, the Abidan do have such a system, and sufficiently advanced worlds are allowed to interact with the Abidan openly. Though most Iterations never make it to this point.I can't share it with you, though, because I haven't perfected it yet. I have an early version of the system, but I don't like it much, and it's likely to change before it makes an appearance in the books.
Jack
1) You said each world had its own magic system. Does Amalgam have its own system seperate from the territories or is that all it had from the beginning?
2) Some iterations have galactic colonies. Are there aliens in the Willverse?
Will Wight
1.) Amalgam's magic system is its unique property that allows it to collect and draw power from Territories.
2.) There is alien life, but the only sentient non-human life was either once human or gained sentience from humanity in some way.
The Elders, for instance, were never human, but they gained the ability to interact with the world in a way we recognize as intelligent from humanity.
Captain Nemo
The posts on the Abdian were a great idea! I really like how you've fleshed out the common denominator among the magic systems a bit more.
I am curious, though, about the specific ways that each magic system relates to the Way. I think you said that the territories were connected to Amalgam and that travelers could enter them through a connection to the Way (more or less). How do intent and aura/madra relate to the Way?
Will Wight
They don't really, at least not in the way you're asking.
You know how each room in Valinhall has some of its own unique rules and powers, kind of like a mini-Territory each? That's because it's stitched together from small fragments, and each fragment has its own different magic.
So every world has a unique magic system. These are the powers of the Iterations themselves, not the powers of the Way.
Questioner
Where in the Willverse would you want to go if you could visit one of your iterations?
Will Wight
Most of the settings I write about aren't places you'd really want to visit. I'm basically inventing the least comfortable places I can imagine. However, there's an ancient library in Cradle called the Dreamway. It's filled with thousands of dream tablets that each contain endlessly changing fictional worlds. Each tablet is essentially a virtual reality experience that crafts a new story on command. I'd want to go there. I'd probably, you know, die from neglecting my basic physical needs, but that's a nicer way to go than by visiting Valinhall.
Your Benevolent Dictator
Did you use the method of writing that you did for Wintersteel with this one?
Will Wight
I've actually gotten questions like that several times, because I described my writing process for Wintersteel and then of course Wintersteel is a really good book if I do say so myself. I don't, but other people do so I'm glad. I think Wintersteel came out really well and so people want to know, did you use the same writing process? The answer is, I never use the same writing process twice. I try to iterate every time. I really do try to, every time I write a book I try to build on and improve on what I did last time.
The focus is on not wasting time, and what I mean by that is not truly really wasting it. Truly doing something that does not lead to progress in the manuscript. Anything that I do that is lateral progress or is inefficient or is something where I was spinning my wheels trying to decide if this character's design should be red or blue, that's not helping. Anything that I do that adds to the story and is really developing the story I try to keep. The idea behind that is, prior to Wintersteel I had been writing a lot of wasted words. So I'd write 30 to 50 thousand words that wouldn't end up in the manuscript because I would be going off on a tangent and then realize "Well, that doesn't make any sense." So then I'd cut it and then I'd have to come back and start over or I'd have to write another part or whatever. [I'm] trying to stop that. I've gotten better at that every time so I think probably Dreadgod was my most efficient one so far in Cradle. So it's an evolved version of that. It's all steps on the same journey, I guess you might say.
God of the Tower
How many other worlds have elders on them? Whats the strongest power in Valinhall and Ragnarus? Are different types of madra really different essences of intent of the universe? How many things in vallinhall are awakened objects?
Will Wight
1.) The only worlds with Elders in them are doomed, except for Asylum.2.) The strongest power in Valinhall and Ragnarus...I'm not sure. That's a difficult question.3.) Each Iteration has its own unique expression of power. In Asylum, it shows up as Intent. In Cradle, it's madra.4.) The relationship between Valinhall and Awakened objects is something I'll have to explore in a prequel novel/novella.
