Does Reigan Shen do catnip?
All the time.
What purpose do Dross' core and Madra channels serve? Can he actually cycle with them?
That was all part of Dross evolving from a construct to an independent spirit. Without some form of madra channels, he wouldn't be able to process power. He cannot cycle aura, though technically Lindon could cycle aura to him. If he wanted.
After reading the Cradle series I became quite interested in Chinese XianXia genre anime and noticed more than a few similarities between your books and these anime. Have you watched (or read the base material) of anime like Yao Shen Ji, Mo Dao Zu Shi, and Wangu Xian Qiong? How much of an impact do you think external material had on the Cradle series?
Uh yes, I've seen... that. I don't know how to refer to those in English. But yeah, I did all the research. I've read it all, seen it all, but mainly just because I'm into it. It mostly wasn't a research thing. How much of an impact did external material have on the Cradle series? Infinite. I really like the genre, I really like the conventions, and I thought, "Hey I can a story in that genre." And so then I did.
Dross is an annoying little twat. My inner narrator voice wonders if he's sounds like Rodney Dangerfield, or more James Hong (duck dad in Kung Fu Panda, Covetous Shen in Diablo 3) or Taika Waititi (as he does Korg in Thor: Ragnarok). Are any of these close to what you imagined?
I imagine more of a British accent. Of those three, closest to Taika Waititi. I don't hear him as a New Zealander, but I could imagine that.
So I just finished reaper (again) and I noticed something. Lindon's shiny new arm tried to eat Eithan a little at the end - but the question is how? I know it sounds like a dumb question but bare with me. Consider the following
a) His old arm he could eat people because of the binding in it which he got from the transcendent ruins
b) His new arm comes from Subject One a Dreadgod which only have one giga binding (which Shen stole)
c) Lindon isn't a real hunger artist as dross points out.
So my question is how did he use consume on Eithan at the end?
Thanks in advance :)
It’s a basic property of the madra.
Bindings are crystallized techniques you can use just by running madra through them, but Lindon knows how to use the Consume technique. The arm itself has the power for it.
But even without that, hunger’s basic property is that it devours, just like fire madra burns. The Consume technique is a refined way of doing that and bringing it into your spirit effectively, and Lindon’s modified Heart of Twin Stars helps separate and process the energy.
Without a technique, you’re just kind of gulping down everything all at once and you have little control over where anything goes, or whether you get it or the arm does, or whether it gets incorporated into your advancement, etc.
Is harvesting a sages/someone with acces to the way remnant an almost sure fire way to be able to gain access to the way? We’ve seen two examples of this in the series Yerin and Regan Shen. I just finished my 5th reread seconds ago so I’m brimming with questions if you do not like this question or feel it has an unsatisfying answer please feel free to say so and I’ll ask a different one.
Also I have a sneaky suspicion that eithan grandpa line has something to do with the connection between eithan and the Aurelius monarch I’ve got my Tin foil hat on Will and I’m watching you.
I love these books will please never give up writing. I wanna be an author and you’re one of my heroes.
Awww, you've warmed the cockles of my heart. I have warm cockles now thanks to you.
An almost surefire way? No. But it does help clear the way to higher levels if you manage to adopt a Remnant with greater advancement and/or insight, like a Sage's.
Lindon seemed like he screwed up but somehow Malice and NS accept this as a victory.
That’s why Northstrider is initially furious. Lindon ruined their chance to fight and helped Shen run away.
The Monarchs treat it like a victory when they realize that teleporting RS away means Lindon has permanent control of the labyrinth, and since Malice and NS consider him a loyal asset, that means THEY have control of an ancient globe-spanning repository of power and knowledge.
Until the end of the book, when they realize Lindon’s not quite as under control as they thought.
