Questioner

Is Hunger Madra an artificial creation? If not, where would it show up naturally? If this is too spoiler-y, then what techniques did the Path of the Broken Star use, and how did its practitioners evolve into the Jai clan?

Will Wight

It is artificial.

Are there any betting organizations? To bet on the outcome of a duel for instancethere probably is but how advanced is it? Do they manage to show the fights live using dream madra?!

Will Wight

Are there any betting organizations? Yes, and if I have my way they'll show up in book six.

What was the name of the Li clan's path, and what sort of madra do they use?

Will Wight

Ah.. I have the answer for that, I don't remember. I think they're a venom path because they use snakes. That sounds right. I don't remember I have to look that up, but I think so. I think it's venom.

What madra would a path using speech to destroy use?

Will Wight

Wind and destruction? The elemental categories are pretty soft, so I could see wind and blood, wind and life, wind and force...

Questioner

Hi Will, do you actually quantify madra capacity for Eithan and Lindon and everyone in your notes? Or do you write without thinking of specific values? And will we ever see it explicitly in the story for some shock value?

Will Wight

Sometimes I do. I don't plan on giving hard numbers for it in canon, though.

Questioner

Lindon should have a harem.  By now Mercy, Yerin, lil blue and Geisha would be in harem by now. Orthos would turn out to be female and Lindon's goal would be to show arrogant young lords why he is worthy of Emperor's jade like beauty sister.

Will Wight

Strange...this is exactly the plot of the sixth novel. Using the Emperor’s elixirs, Gesha is regenerated back into her young body, and she finally notices how heroic Lindon’s eyebrows are and falls for him. Little Blue gains a solid form and can now express her long-standing affection for Lindon, it’s revealed that Mercy is actually gone from the Akura family to look for a man strong enough to be her husband, and all this attention causes Yerin to realize her true feelings for Lindon. The Emperor’s sister begins to see him as a little brother until Lindon rescues her, and as she is carried away in his arms she realizes how much she’s missed a man’s strong embrace. Despite the fact that she’s physically stronger than he is, but forget about that.

The only thing you got wrong is Orthos. He’s not a female turtle, but his never-before-mentioned daughter is, and she’s so advanced that she is perfectly human in appearance and, of course, has beauty like a heavenly fairy. She has to continue the Blackflame bloodline, and Lindon’s the only one around...

I’m amazed you picked up on all that, considering how subtle the clues were in the previous books.

What does water turn into if left to gather madra for long enough like a stone will turn into a Titians bone.

Will Wight

Sacred pools, which are referred to differently in different lands, are actually fairly common. Titan's bone is almost mythical, because of how long it takes stone aura to condense in rocks and how deep you have to drill to excavate it. However, sacred pools, divine springs, and so on are commonly used to refine elixirs. They are often cultivated specifically in the gardens of powerful sects. Some believe that the deep ocean has the water with the most condensed and powerful aura, but that's difficult to judge. The power of water is of course overwhelming down there, but no one is known to have filled a container with deep-ocean water and returned to the surface without contaminating the power of the sample.

Questioner

Are the dragons in the tournament not considered too old?

Will Wight

No, they are not. They are in the tournament because they are not considered too old. They are older than humans would be, but they are not considered too old.

did dragons evolve as a species or are they a result of their status of Sacred Beast?

Will Wight

I don't know if this is a spoiler or not, so I'll answer it anyway: sacred beast, but dragons exist in many forms in different Iterations similar to humanity     So the relationship and origin of dragons is a subject of study among Abidan

Questioner

Have you read Overlord (Light Novel)?

Will Wight

I'm not a huge Overlord fan. The main character is playing an MMO when it shuts down. He's one of the top players in the game when it's shutting down and he wakes up in the body of his game character. He gets the power of a max level character and he ends up being able to explore this fantasy world. And his character is a lich; he's an undead magic user. That's really cool. He's awesome. The people are awesome. The place he finds himself in: the magic dark fortress his guild uses is super cool.

The problem I have with the series is that because the main character is undead he has no human emotions, feelings, or morality. It's like reading through the perspective of a robot and he doesn't care about anything and doesn't have any goals. He has no resistance and faces no places and doesn't care about anything. So it's hard for me.

A lot of the books are various perspectives around him which I find a lot more interesting. Then again, he's the more colorful character and he's the main character. It's not one of my favorite series.

I've read it and I'm current (at least I was a few months ago). The anime is really good.

What I really like about it is the colorful cast of characters and the colorful setting of his fortress.

If you had to choose a path, which path would you choose?

The answer I've given to this before, there's a couple of them. Path of the Cloud Hammer from the Blackflame empire, I would love to have that. I think Cloud/Force madra seems really cool. It lets you, like, double jump and fly around on clouds like Dragon Ball era Goku. Telekinesis type abilities, I think that's neat. Oh right, Path of the Broken Star, which I've talked about before. It was one of the paths that Lindon could have chosen in Blackflame. It's neat, it's basically like purple energy beams.

Questioner

When Lindon's Story in Cradle is done and finished, do you think the world may get more stories? If no, what are our chances of getting some kind of Index like the Aurelius Archives, covering madra types and paths?

Will Wight

So when Lindon's story is done in Cradle, one thing I'd like to do before the series is over, and I know I am running out of time now, but I would like to do some spin-off short stories, kind of like I've done a long time ago in the past for Traveler's Gate and the one I did for Ziel.  I'd like to do a few more of those.  And the Halloween one I did like five years ago now.  Four years, three years, whatever.  All the years blur together.  So, I'd like to do some of that.  After Lindon's story is over in Cradle, I think... I can't make a decision on that yet.  It's something that I'm open to do more Cradle side stories or extra Cradle stories, I just can't commit to that yet, because a lot of it would depend on me being clear about where the story ends which of course I can't do.  It would also depend on how people respond to that, what else I'm working on.  I do know it won't be the first thing I'm doing; new Cradle book won't be the first thing I'm doing.  I've got to write something else guys.  I love writing new things, and I have been on Cradle for a long time.  I really love Cradle, I really enjoy writing it; that does not mean it is something new though.  So for me, just for my personal preference, I would love alternating between Cradle and something else, but now Cradle is just about over, so I'm probably going to do a new series afterwards.  I have a couple of ideas that I'm batting around for that.

Could someone follow a path based on infusing madra directly into the body, with a possible blood/life path as the actual path to deal with the physical issues of the path?

Will Wight

I don't fully understand the theory there, but that sounds plausible.

Jon

I was just wondering if that was the plan from the very beginning or if this idea of iterations developed as you wrote new books? Also are we going to be seeing new iterations, complete with different magic systems?

Will Wight

Ideas don't ever stop developing, in my experience, even unto the point where I was tweaking details before I released this post.

However, these basic mechanics were in place years before I wrote House of Blades. I didn't call them Iterations--that was a term I invented when I wrote Unsouled in order to give Suriel something to say other than "worlds" or "dimensions."

>Are we going to be seeing new Iterations?

One of my main goals in making this system was to create a framework in which I could write whatever stories I wanted. So if I want to do an interdimensional war that spans hundreds of worlds, I can. If I want to do a classic fantasy novel that never mentions the Abidan or any other worlds, I can.

But the reader, in the back of their mind, already knows some of the shared rules of this multiverse. YOU know what's going to happen when humanity is destroyed, even if the characters don't. YOU know how someone can read the future (Fate) and still end up wrong. That sort of thing.

  • Is madra similar to magic in chinese novels, where there's some profound truth and power is determined by how close you are to learning it, or is it more of a "people think it, so that's how it works" kind of system?

  • Is dross doing what drudges do?

Will Wight

1.) More the first one than the second one.

2.) Somewhat, yes!

Questioner

Are there any instances of sacred artists "selling themselves " into slavery at a coliseum to gain patrons and have a legal way to cultivate blood madra?

Will Wight

Most culturally acceptable blood Paths are medical, so it's not difficult to find sources of blood aura. Also, every living being generates some blood aura, so you can cycle a little wherever you are.

Questioner

What path would Deadpool be on?

Will Wight

I don't know. Deadpool kinda, his set of powers is kinda like, just kinda, a sorta general sacred artist. So I don't know what kind of madra he would have or what he practiced. I feel like saying something memey about Ryan Reynolds but I don't know what that would be exactly.

(comes back to question later)

So, what path would Deadpool be on?  He feels like a guy who just kinda has an iron body, and the maybe is an Underlord or something?  Yeah, I don't know.
